Lydia's trip to kenya

Lydia & Emma with some of the children The missionaries are glad to see visitors

(as reported by herself)

"In mid February of this year myself along with Emma Graham from Belfast, had the opportunity of spending two weeks with the Free Presbyterian missionaries in Kenya. The aim of our trip was to visit the missionaries and to become acquainted with the work of the Bible Christian Faith churches, schools and nursery schools. With the awesome scenery, warm weather, different culture, friendliness of the local people and hospitality of the missionaries, it made a great way to spend two weeks holiday.

After a very long and tiring flight we finally arrived in Narobi, we were immediately hit by the cultural difference as we sat waiting for our internal flight in a very primitive airport corridor, where our baggage was weighed on rusty scales which looked like they had been around from the early 1900's! Our internal flight took us to Eldoret where we were met by Gillian Gillespie who took us to Noreen McAfee's house in Kitale where we had our first experience of missionary cuisine, to my delight it was ‘Ulsterish’ and not Kenyan!

For the next two weeks with the exception of one weekend, we stayed at Gillian's house in Kapenguria, I’m sure Gillian appreciated us keeping her up every evening well after the missionary midnight hour of 9pm!

A timetable was made out for us for our two weeks, each day we got to observe and help out in different aspects of the work. We spent two days in the BCFC Christian Academy with Noreen, both in the classroom and playground, believe me a full morning out in the playground with very active children, and it roasting hot is hard work, especially when Emma decided to teach them British Bulldogs!!!

Most days we just fitted in with the missionaries activities, these included; visiting the nursery schools with Gillian, making up sewing kits and work sheets, visiting the bookshop, meeting the Bible College students and attending and speaking at women’s meetings with Margaret. I got off quite lightly with just having to bring greetings and testifying considering Emma's lot at these meeting was to preach!

My entire time in Kenya I was struck with how hard it must be for the missionaries to adapt to life on the mission field, from simple everyday things like conserving water to mixing with people of a completely different culture. It was very evident to me how, whom God calls He also equips, when you see how happy and content each of the missionaries are in the different works God has called each of them to do."

SOME POINTS FOR PRAYER:

Pray that each of the boys and girls who attend the BCFC School would be saved
Pray that the missionaries would all be kept in good health
Pray that the missionaries would know God's help and wisdom in their different works
Pray that the youth of the church would be kept morally pure and grow as Christians
Pray that men would be raised up by God to preach the Gospel in Kenya
